I’m planning to go to flight school within the next few months. I have narrowed my search to these three schools and would like to know what anyone has to say about them. I’m not sure if I want to fly commercial or corporate after school. I would like to know what will be best for the money and preparation for the future. Thanks.

Stay away from Delta Connection. Although they may have quality training, for some reason the airline pilot community has very little respect for people from this school. There are a lot of stupid reasons for this, but it is a reality. By not going there you will save yourself some aggravation later on if you decide on an airline career.

I have done some simulator training at Flight Safety. It is a quality flight school and is well respected in the industry.

I have friends who have trained at ATP and said they liked the training and the experience that they got there. They are working for various airlines, so it seems to be a good school as well.

If it were me, I would go with Flight Safety, but I’d have to do some more research on ATP to be sure.

Before you decide on a big name (and big $$$) commercial school, why not do some research on programs available from your local community colleges or universities. You may find a better education for lots less money at your local public schools. This is especially true if you haven’t decided which way you want to go with your flying career (Airline or Corporate.)

I attended, and can personally recommend Indian Hills Community College, and Southern Illinois University, but there are lots of schools out there if you do some research…

Good Luck!

I am currently at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas, just outside Houston. The aviation program is now in partnership with the Delta Connection Academy. I started my Instrument Training towards the end of October and am now finishing up my rating. Really fast progress and this is that I took a month vacation due to funds/holidays. I highly recommend their program but plan accordingly. Flight training is not cheap. But the rewards are great. Plus you get to fly as an observer on mostly any flight if you’d like.

Just like the guy before me I say stay away from Delta, I am a flight instructor and I have heard that they economically abuse their students, I know that learn hot to fly is not cheap but you should not have to sell your kidney in order to go to flight school. Stick to schools that offer 141 trainig and good airplanes also try to contact enrolled students as they can give you the inside scoop of the training enviroment ans satisfactory level.
If you are in the Houston metro area check out the website below.
