In the route of flight section of a flight plan, what is typically the final point the pilot requests and are there a specific reasons for choosing certain points? Does the pilot file to an initial approach fix of the instrument procedure he hopes to use?
In the route of flight section of a flight plan, what is typically the final point the pilot requests and are there a specific reasons for choosing certain points? Does the pilot file to an initial approach fix of the instrument procedure he hopes to use? Also, this also applies to the first point listed in the "route of flight" block of the flight plan. Assuming there is no DP, would I choose the closest fix in my direction of flight as my first waypoint? Also, assuming I have no GPS (no "direct" capabilities), can an intersection be my first waypoint if I would like radar vectors immediately after takeoff to that intersection? I know these are a lot of questions, but I’d rather just make it one subject.

No where in the flight plan does it directly indicate which approach you will/may/prefer to use.You file to a destination. But your flight plan can have some subtle or not-so-subtle hints on which approach you would prefer. Your equipment code for example…./G is a CLUE.,Your enroute altitude matching the altitude at which you must cross the IAF.
Smart(IMHO) pilots file to an IAF then to the airport.(Think lost comms)The IAF also clues in a controller which approach you MIGHT want to use.

I’m going into the city in October for a saturday night with a few girlfriends, and I wanted to book a hotel for the night. We were planning on hitting a few bars and clubs, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of hotels i might want to look into, and maybe even some places to check out. I’m not too familiar with the city.

Also, there’s a budget on the hotel, so if you have any suggestions, may it be one for under $225 a night. Thanks!

I just got back from New York City last weekend. I stayed at The Pod hotel. It is under $225 a night. It is located right next to the 51st & Lexington ave subway. The rooms are modern and very clean. I stayed in the bunk room with my friend. It was $157/night with tax (I went through Hotels.com). We each had a 10in flat screen tv on each bed and their was an iPod docking station in the room. The bar next door was an awesome New York neighborhood bar. Times Square and Greenwich Village were only a couple stops away. Hope you have fun! Check out www.thepodhotel.com.

I know that some airlines pay their flight attendants by the flight hour. I was wondering exactly what that is. Thanks.

At my airline, flight time (pay hours) begin the moment the main passenger door is closed before pushback, and ends as soon as the door is re-opened upon arrival. The door mechanism is actually connected to a computer which records the time. Even if you happen to sit on the runway for 2 hours due to weather or traffic congestion you are still accumulating "flight hours" because the door is closed.

I want to spend the weekend in Stockholm for my birthday in April and im looking into costs. How much would I roughly need? I mean tickets and the hotel and stuff, im not sure how expensive it is there. I don’t want to stay in a hostel but it doesn’t need to be in a 5 star hotel either! Whats the best airline for cheap tickets?

Try http://skyscanner.net or http://momondo.com for airline tickets (flight comparison search engines).

I don’t know what weekend you want to go, but prices right now for April are around £30 round trip with Ryanair. The problem with Ryanair is that it flies into Stockholm Skavsta, which isn’t in Stockholm at all. You have to take an airport bus for about 80 minutes into Stockholm, which adds another £15 round trip.

Expect to pay about 1000 SEK/night (£85) minimum for a hotel in a decent location.

For 3 meals out, you should budget at least £30/day for inexpensive restaurants. Look for restaurants that offer a "dagens meny" for lunch (fixed menus at a set price), usually costing under £8.

If you plan to go out or drink, expect to pay £4.75+ for a half liter.

A 3-day transportation card is 200 SEK (£17).

I’d estimate you should budget at least £350 for a comfortable 2 night/3 day trip, more if you plan to go out.
